FinOps Beacon performs read-only scans and does not create, modify, or delete Azure resources. Connect Microsoft uses your account's existing Azure permissions; the delegated permission is not itself a read-only role. Your organization may require administrator consent. For a dedicated identity restricted to reading, use the manual service-principal connection with appropriate read roles. You can revoke either connection in Microsoft Entra. Billing visibility may also require your billing administrator or CSP partner to enable cost access. The setup guide explains the prerequisites.
FinOps Beacon uses either delegated Microsoft consent or a read-only Azure service principal and does not create, modify, or delete Azure resources. Application secrets and delegated refresh credentials are encrypted before database storage, access is tenant-scoped, and the production service uses HTTPS and restricted database access. The manual service-principal method remains available when an organization cannot use delegated consent.
Azure Cost Management and Advisor already provide valuable cost analysis and savings recommendations, including idle resources. FinOps Beacon brings Azure data, Advisor recommendations, and additional resource checks into one workspace with scan history, saved recommendation decisions, and cost review tools. It complements those Azure services; estimated savings still need to be validated against your workloads.
Yes. Paid plans use monthly billing and can be managed from account settings through the billing portal. Access continues according to the status and end date reported by the billing provider.
Azure is available for self-serve trials today. AWS is in a limited pilot, with separate access approval before an organization can connect an AWS account. A trial or paid plan does not automatically enable AWS. When AWS access is enabled, both clouds share the same workspace and plan allowance. See AWS pilot availability and request early access.
